About

Kevin Tate, LMHC, PhD

Hello, and I appreciate the time you are taking to consider the right person and process for you in counseling. I’ll share a bit here to introduce myself, but please reach out if you have further questions about what counseling might be like if we work together. I very much enjoy working with adults who are facing complex transitions in their lives such as (but not limited to) career/work changes, starting/ending close relationships, changes in health status, the many transitions involved in parenting, or other similar experiences. I also work with clients going through more broad changes such as moving into new “stages and ages of life”, religious/spiritual concerns, seeking a deeper purpose in life, or other issues/challenges that span longer periods of time. My philosophy of counseling is to shape the work we do around the needs, goals, and overall direction that you want to take in your life. If you have very focused, concrete issues you would like to address, I use a solution-focused approach to create plans and strategies (in partnership with you) for focused change and growth. If you have more broad, complicated things to address, my approach is to explore a deeper purpose and meaning with you that will serve as a foundation for more significant, deep change for you as a whole person. No matter what you would like to talk about in counseling I believe in looking for and using your strengths as a whole person to create the change you seek. My professional background started in Florida, where I completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s in mental health counseling, and a doctorate in counselor education at the University of Florida. Along my professional path, I have worked in community mental health and crisis response, university career centers, academic success coaching for college students, training programs for new counselors, and in private practice as a mental health counselor.
